T.C. 218-1

DESCRIPTION

T.C. 218-1 is a liquid cleaner and etchant. It possesses a very mild, pleasant odor. The material is a very strong caustic alkali but is buffered and highly chelated to endow its solutions with desirable properties for the uniform etching of aluminum surfaces.

APPLICATION

T.C. 218-1 is an immersion tank aluminum cleaner with built-in etching properties which insure removal of oils, soils, finger prints, oxides, etc. The solutions produce surfaces that are in prime condition for electroplating, anodizing or organic finishing. Incorporated are synthetic detergents which also function to create a controlled foam blanket to eliminate fumes and mist during metal processing. The chelating ingredients permit a high content of aluminum build-up in the bath with minimal scale formation.

A unique feature of T.C. 218-1 is in its use at ambient temperatures for cleaning aluminum coated with maskants (such as fluidized vinyl) without undercutting such coatings at interfaces.

HOW TO USE

Concentration 2 to 6% by volume with water
Temperature Ambient to 160°F
Time As required, and depending upon degree of etch needed
Rinse Follow cleaning/etching operation and thoroughly rinse in clean water

CONTROL

Concentrations are determined by titration as follows: Take a 10 ml. tank sample, add about 25 mls. distilled water, and 5 - 8 drops Phenolphthalein Indicator. Titrate with 1N HCl.

The Titration times 0.64 = oz./gallon.

HANDLING

T.C. 218-1 is a highly alkaline material, and the usual precautions for handling must be observed. Wear protective garments, including rubber gloves, aprons and coveralls.

Use approved chemical safety goggles and/or face shield. For skin or eye contact, flush affected areas with large volumes of water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention for skin burns or eye involvement. For industrial use only; DO NOT TAKE INTERNALLY. Disposal methods are in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. Keep container closed when not in use.
